Work starts on North Sea Sverdrup 2 module

Kvaerner and Aker Solutions have cut the first steel plate for Phase 2 of the Johan Sverdrup field development, 160 km (99.4 mi) west of Stavanger in the Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, NorwayKvaerner and Aker Solutions have cut the first steel plate for Phase 2 of the Johan Sverdrup field development, 160 km (99.4 mi) west of Stavanger in the Norwegian North Sea.

This will be used at a bridge support module to be positioned where a new bridge will connect to the existing riser platform at the four-platform complex.

The NOK3.4-billion ($398-million) contract scope, awarded to the two companies under a 50/50 partnership, includes engineering, procurement, and construction of a 5,000-metric ton (5,611-ton) module and includes modifications to the Phase 1 field center, plus offshore installation and integration work.

Kvaerner is managing construction at its yard in Stord, with the project scheduled for completion in 2022. At peak the company expects to employ around 550 people with a further 300 involved at in Aker Solutions.

For Phase 1, Kvaerner is supplying the topsides for one of the four platforms and three of the steel jacket substructures.

It will also deliver the steel jacket that will support the new Phase 2 processing platform topsides.
