PARIS – Total has signed an agreement for two new offshore exploration and production contracts with Mauritania’s Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines.
Blocks C15 and C31 are both in deepwater and span an area of 14,175 sq km (5,473 sq mi). Total will have a 90% operated interest, the remainder held by state-owned Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier.
In May 2017, Total was awarded operatorship ofblock C7 and a 45% interest in block C18, and the company also operates the deep offshore block C9, where it plans to drill a well in 2019.
“This agreement contributes to the implementation of Total’s strategy that aims to explore basins in proven yet under-explored petroleum systems,” said Arnaud Breuillac, president Exploration & Production.
The company’s blocks from Mauritania down to Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria now comprise half its acreage in Africa.
