Saipem wins more Zohr EPCI work, drilling contracts

Saipem and Petrobel have negotiated a contract addendum worth more than $1.2 billion for EPCI activities in relation to the ramp up to plateau phase of the Zohr field in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea.

SAN DONATO MILANESE, ItalySaipem and Petrobel have negotiated a contract addendum worth more than $1.2 billion for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) activities in relation to the ramp up to plateau phase of the Zohr field in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea.

Petrobel is a 50-50 joint venture between Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. and IEOC (an Eni subsidiary in Egypt) and is in charge of the development of Zohr on behalf of PetroShorouk, a joint venture between EGAS (Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company), IEOC,Rosneft, BP, and Mubadala Petroleum.

The current addendum to the work includes the installation of a second 30-in. diameter gas export pipeline, infield clad lines, umbilicals and electrical/fiber optic cable, as well as EPCI work for the field development in deepwater (up to 1,700 m/5,577 ft) of 10 wells.

The ramp up to plateau phase is scheduled to begin next month, in direct continuity with theoptimized ramp up phase, which was completed in a 17-month project execution period from its contract award.

In this new phase of works, Saipem will deploy: theCastorone, an ultra-deepwater pipelayer; the FDS, a subsea field development ship; the heavy-lift vessel S7000; the DP-3 subsea construction vessel Normand Maximus; the subsea construction vessel Saipem 3000; the pipelay vessel Castoro Sei; and the multi-purpose vessels Normand Cutter and Far Samson.

The innovative assets and technologies already used in the previous phases, and the ability to build solid local partnerships, will also ensure the success of this latest phase.”

In addition, Saipem has secured new offshore drilling contracts.

Offshore Mexico, Eni Messico has contracted the company to drill 15 wells, plus 13 optional ones split in three different options. Work is expected to begin in 1Q 2019, using the new high-specification jackupPioneer chartered from Jindal group.

Offshore Norway, Eni has awarded the harsh-environment semisubmersibleScarabeo 8 a one-well contract. Eni has also contracted the drillship Saipem 12000 in Pakistan and awarded the semisub Scarabeo 7 a contract extension in Indonesia.
