NEW YORK – ExxonMobil and its partners have achieved a tenth discovery in the deepwater Stabroek block offshore Guyana.

TheNoble Tom Madden drillship spudded the Pluma-1 well on Nov. 1 in 3,340 ft (1,018 m) of water. According to partner Hess, the well penetrated around 121 ft (37 m) of good high-quality, hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone reservoir, reaching a depth of 16,447 ft (5,013 m).

The location is 17 mi (27 km) south of theTurbot-1 discovery well.

TheNoble Tom Madden will next drill the Tilapia-1 prospect, 3.4 mi (5.5 km) west of the Longtail-1 well.

As a result of this latest find and further evaluation of previous discoveries, the recoverable resource estimate for the block now stands more than 5 Bboe, compared with over 4 Bboe in July.

CEO John Hess said: “The growing resource base…further underpins the potential for at least five FPSOs producing more than 750,000 b/d of oil by 2025.”

TheLiza Phase 1 development is set to produce up to 120,000 b/d by early 2020 through the FPSO Liza Destiny, with start-up of Liza Phase 2 to follow by mid-2022 (assuming sanction for the project early next year). In this case the FPSO will be designed to produce up to 220,000 b/d.

Sanctioning of a third development, Payara, should also follow in 2019 with start-up possible by 2023.
