LONDON – Azinor Catalyst as received a letter of intent concerning the acquisition of non-operated stakes in three exploration wells planned in the UK North Sea next year.
All have been defined and de-risked using some of the latest broadband seismic data and geoscience techniques, the company said, adding that all three represent potentially large and high value opportunities across different play types and close to existing offshore infrastructure and export routes.
Planning and procurement preparations are under way for the wells.
In addition, further to the recent announcement regarding theAgar Plantain discovery, Catalyst continues to be encouraged by the data being generated from further analysis of the well results. Catalyst is working with its partners to further define this attractive discovery and further potential exploration and appraisal drilling activity on the license.
The Boaz prospect, in the South Viking Graben, is an untested Triassic titled fault block next to the UK/Norway media line and on trend to the Triassic Eirin gas/condensate discovery in the Norwegian sector. Boaz structure is also thought to be gas/condensate-bearing, with potential resources of 242 MMboe.
Goose, in the Outer Moray Firth off northeast Scotland, is a stratigraphic trap with a lower Cretaceous Scapa sandstone objective. The location is 12 km (7.5 mi) north of the producing Claymore field and directly within the main hydrocarbon fairway. Catalyst assesses potential volumes here at 75 MMboe.
Hinson in the West Central Graben comprises a large Upper Jurassic stratigraphic trap adjacent to the hanging wall of the West Central Graben bounding fault. To the south are the producing Gannet and Guillemot complexes with the Annasuria Cluster to the west: potential resources are 178 MMboe.
Henry Morris, the company’s technical director of Azinor, said: “These three prospects are all located in reservoir types that continue to deliver material commercial hydrocarbons in the North Sea. Now is the opportune time to spin the drill bit with low rig rates and an attractive fiscal regime…”
In addition, Catalyst continues to analyze data from its recent Agar Plantain discovery in the same region and is working with its partners on further potential exploration and appraisal drilling activity on the license.
