EDINBURGH, UKNew Age’s appraisal drilling program on the Etinde field offshore Cameroon has been completed at low cost, helped by favorable rig rates.

According to partner Bowleven, the Etinde partners also benefitted from Tier 1 contractors with the technical expertise, geographical experience, and HSE record to ensure that budgets and timeframes were achieved.

The campaign was designed to prove an additional 1-2 tcf of gas to supplement the existing 1 tcf in place.

While the IM-6 well did not materially increase the resource estimates it did delineate the wet gas/water contact location within the Intra Isongo 410 sand reservoir. This will improve understanding ahead of a future development.

However, the IE-4 well, drilled close to the previous IE-3 well, will likely add around 1.1 tcf to the contingent resource base.

As New Age completes studies for the development, plans for floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) may require re-assessment, Bowleven added.

Other options include reduced surface infrastructure and a lower-capex investment case which would leave FLNG as a medium-term gas export solution while the other near-term development phases are agreed with the Etinde JV stakeholders.
