OSLO, Norway – Equinor has received approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority to extend the lifespan of the Snorre B semisubmersible platform in the North Sea until the end of 2040.
This is an integrated drilling, processing and quarters facility that produces oil and gas from the northern part of the Snorre field. The facility began operating in 2001 – the original consent applied until 2021.
The extension also applies to the associated pipelines, risers, and subsea structures.
Snorre is in the Tampen area in the northern Norwegian North Sea in water depths of 300-350 m (984-1,148 ft). The original plan for development (including the Snorre A platform) was approved in 1988, nine years after the field was discovered.
The PDO for Snorre B and recovery from the northern part of the field was sanctioned in 1998.
Equinor and its partners are undertaking a series of activities which include new subsea wells, upgrading Snorre A and increasing gas injection to sustain production.
