ZUG, Switzerland – Nord Stream 2 AG has submitted plans for an alternative route for the Nord Stream 2 gas lines that does not pass through Denmark’s territorial waters.
The application and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, delivered to the Danish Energy Agency (DEA), is for a 175-km (109-mi) long passage through the Danish exclusive economic zone (EEZ) to the northwest of the island of Bornholm.
The Nord Stream 2 consortium decided to take this action because a recommendation from Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on whether the DEA should handle such issues has been pending since January.
At the same time, the consortium is not withdrawing from the ongoing procedure for its preferred route, as applied for in April 2017, based on guidance from Denmark’s authorities during planning and construction of the existing Nord Stream 1 twin pipelines.
Permits have come through from all the other national jurisdictions through which the pipelines pass between Russia and the reception point of northern Germany.
