BHP wells prove more gas offshore Trinidad and Tobago

PERTH, Australia – BHP’s latest exploration well offshore Trinidad and Tobago has encountered hydrocarbons.

The initial well in the company’s Northern license area, Bongos-1, had to be cut short after experiencing mechanical issues.

Bongos-2, spudded by theDeepwater Invictus on July 23, was more successful, and is still drilling.

Earlier, the company proved gas with the Victoria-1 exploration well, subsequently P&A’d last month. BHP now plans to drill the Concepcion prospect to further test the Magellan play in the 2019 financial year.

In the December 2018 quarter, the company expects to start drilling the first appraisal well on thedeepwater Trion field.
