PERTH, Australia – Woodside Energy has contracted Ocean Infinity to provide data to support a survey for the Scarborough subsea field development offshore Western Australia.

The location is 375 km (233 mi) northwest of the Burrup peninsula.

The program calls for a deepwater geophysical pre-engineering route survey, due to start shortly, which will extend around 300 km (186 mi) from Scarborough in 950-1,400 m (3,117-4,593 ft) water depths up the scarp break toward the onshore LNG processing facilities on the peninsula.

Ocean Infinity will deploy numerous AUVs simultaneously from the 115-m (377-ft) long vesselSeabed Constructor to compile data for Woodside’s route engineering design.

This should increase coverage and reduce operating time, the contractor said.

The AUVs are equipped with high-resolution side scan sonar, multi-beam echosounder, sub-bottom profiler, HD camera, conductivity/temperature/depth sensor, self-compensating magnetometer, synthetic aperture sonar, and turbidity sensors.
