TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands – Upland Resources has a memorandum of understanding with Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corp., a Sarawak State entity, to jointly assess, explore for and develop hydrocarbons in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Upland said this was a unique arrangement within the Sarawak upstream oil and gas market, and the first such public/private collaboration with a Sarawakian entity, at a time of major change for the Malaysian oil industry.

Both parties have collaborated for some time and have been assessing various upstream oil and gas opportunities.

Upland believes there is strong potential for further discoveries and for reappraisal of existing fields in Sarawak.

Recently the state government of Sarawak constituted Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as a new arm of the regional government: both parties to the MoU claim to have good relations with Petros.

Brooke is a government statutory body, founded in 1912 and is, aside from Petros, the state of Sarawak’s sole entity involved in upstream oil and gas, providing fabrication and commissioning of offshore drilling platforms, modules, and subsea templates.
