ABERDEEN, UK – Statoil has contracted Ardyne to design and develop a combined casing vibration and pulling system, initially for use on North Sea wells.

Ardyne will undertake modeling and analysis with Statoil contributing its modeling expertise and supplying funding for the project.

The technology will be used during the casing recovery phase of slot recovery and well abandonment, ensuring that a rock-to-rock cement barrier can be installed, and according to Ardyne, providing a faster and more cost-effective alternative to section milling.

The company’s initial NOK8.6-million ($1.07-million) contract extends to pre-field trial Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL-4), but could be extended to include field testing with Statoil and up to full commercialization (TRL-7).
