ADELAIDE, Australia – The Diamond Offshore semisubmersible Ocean Monarch is preparing to depart the Casino Henry gas project in the Otway basin offshore Victoria after completing a workover of the Casino-5 production well.

According to operator Cooper Energy, the workover fulfilled all the technical objectives, with gas production the well restored yesterday at rates in line with expectations.

However, the program underwent frequent interruptions due to unusually heavy ocean conditions.

Gas production from the other wells in the field (Netherby-1, Henry-2, and Casino-4) continued during the workover program.

The rig will now be towed to theSole gas field in the Gippsland basin offshore Victoria to drill and complete the Sole-3 and Sole-4 gas production wells for Cooper.

Sole is undergoing development to provide a new source of gas supply to southeast Australia from 2019.

The voyage to Sole should last around four days, after which the rig will deploy anchors and prepare to start drilling.

Cooper adds that the location of the Sole wells is more sheltered from extreme weather.
