DYCE, UK – OEG Offshore (OEG) has delivered an 85-metric ton variable speed drive (VSD) module to Bluewater Energy Services.

This will be installed on theFPSOAoka Mizu, currently undergoing upgrade and life extension works at Drydocks World in Dubai.

The vessel will hostHurricane Energy’s early production system development of the Lancaster oil field, west of Shetland.

OEG’s design is a single-lift, 15 x 5 x 4-m (49 x 16.4 x 13-ft) J30 fire rated/blast-rated Zone 2 module.

It contains HV switchgear, VSDs, associated control equipment and utilities for the electrical submersible pumps, which will be installed in the production wells to provide artificial lift.

The structure is also engineered to allow a third VSD to be installed offshore in the future.

More than 140 kW of cooling will be installed on the top of the module roof to control the heat generated from the drives and switch gear. Other features are a fire suppression system, duty and standby pressurization system, ProfiBus management system and FPSO interface hookup junction boxes, all housed in a weather-protected recessed area of the module.

OEG technicians will support Bluewater in Dubai prior to final installation and commissioning of the module on the FPSO before it leaves for the Lancaster field.
