TOKYO – Commissioning has finished of the FPSO, subsea production systems, and the first train of the onshore liquefaction plant for the Ichthys project offshore northwest Australia.

According to operator INPEX, all wells have been drilled for the start-up of production, and the 890-km (553-mi) subsea gas export pipeline is also complete.

Over the next two months, further commissioning will continue in the run-up to first gas from the offshore central processing facility (Ichthys Explorer).

Thereafter, production and shipment of condensate, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will follow.

The schedule may fluctuate depending on weather conditions at the work sites, progress of preparation activities and other factors.

The project involves liquefying natural gas from the Ichthys gas/condensate field offshore Western Australia at a new onshore gas liquefaction plant in Darwin, and producing and shipping annually around 8.9 MMt of LNG and 1.65 MMt of LPG, along with 100,000 b/d of condensate at peak.

INPEX expects the facilities to operate for 40 years.
