LONDON – Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine will supply a battery-powered energy system for six platform supply vessels built by Cosco Guangdong in China.
The delivery includes the energy storage container system; an upgrade of the existing Rolls-Royce ship design engineering package to match the new features; an upgrade of the dynamic positioning system and ACON control systems; and provision of a monitoring system to deliver an overview of onboard energy use.
RecentlySEACOR Marine Holding formed a joint venture with China Cosco Shipping Group, SEACOSCO, which has taken over eight offshore vessels that are currently laid up at the yard.
These were ordered in 2013 and 2014 and the venture decided six needed an environmental upgrade, with a further option for the other two. The goal is to make them operational as soon as possible.
SEACOR, based in Louisiana, will take operational responsibility for the vessels and add them to its current fleet.
The vessels are of Rolls-Royce’s UT 771 WP design, and feature the Wave Piercing bow, said to reduce wave resistance during rough conditions, lower fuel consumption, and improved onboard safety.
