IRVING, Texas – Shell has contracted Fluor to perform engineering, procurement, and fabrication of the Sevan-designed FPSO for the Penguins field redevelopment in the UK northern North Sea.

Jim Brittain, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals business, said: “We leveraged Fluor’s full range of integrated solutions to drive down the project’s costs and our fabrication capabilities were a clear differentiator.”

The company’s division in Manila, the Philippines, will lead the project, having previously delivered Shell’s offshoreMalampaya Phase 3 project.

The pre-commissioned FPSO will have a production capacity of 45,000 boe/d and capacity to store up to 400,000 bbl of oil.

It will be designed to operate continuously for 20 years without dry docking and will help extend the life of the Penguins oil and gas fields.
