Spirit spuds Tethys well offshore Norway

Spirit Energy Norge has started drilling on the Tethys prospect in the northern Norwegian North Sea.

WINDSOR, UK – Spirit Energy Norge, the new company that combines the North Sea interests of Centrica and Bayern Norge, has started drilling on the Tethys prospect in the northern Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersibleSonga Enabler is drilling well 35/9-13 in license PL682 located on the Måløy Slope, 66 km (41 mi) west of Florø and 10 km (6.2 mi) northwest of the Gjøa field.

The main aim is to test for commercial volumes of hydrocarbons in Oxfordian sandstones. A well test and a side track may follow in the event of a discovery.

Drilling should take 50 days to complete. Other partners in the well are Capricorn Norge, Wellesley Petroleum, and Petoro.
