Aramco contracts Schlumberger for rigs, drilling services

Saudi Aramco has awarded Schlumberger two lump-sum contracts for drilling rigs and services for its oil and gas wells.

DHAHRAN, Saudi ArabiaSaudi Aramco has awarded Schlumberger two lump-sum contracts for drilling rigs and services for its oil and gas wells.

Schlumberger Integrated Drilling Services will provide the requirements for up to 146 gas wells and up to 128 oil wells over a three-year period.

Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Aramco’s senior vice president Upstream, said: “Saudi Aramco and Schlumberger are key partners who, under these contracts, will be able to bring innovative technologies to the field, and deploy them in our large-scale operations.”

The contracts are structured to provide an integrated service that should lead to increased efficiency and improved cost-effectiveness, while maintaining high safety standards, Aramco said, using the latest processes and technologies.

Aramco has also welcomed Schlumberger’s plans to develop an industrial manufacturing center for its upstream drilling, exploration and production activities and other midstream services at the King Salman Energy Park.

Al-Qahtani said: “Schlumberger is bringing major manufacturing capacity to the Kingdom, with the potential to develop export markets. This presence will attract additional tenants to the Park, bringing the jobs and investment that are crucial to bothSaudi Aramco’s IKTVA development program, and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”

The industrial manufacturing center is being developed on 500,000 sq m (5.38 MM sq ft) of land set aside for energy-related industries. The first phase is due to be completed in 2Q 2018.
