LONDONElement Materials Technology is teaming up with RAMLAB (Rotterdam Additive Manufacturing LAB), a 3D printing field laboratory, to expand knowledge of metal printing, 3D design and certification.

The joint venture’s special focus is on the offshore and maritime markets.

RAMLAB, an initiative of Port of Rotterdam, InnovationQuarter and RDM Makerspace, aims to manufacture large certified metal parts through additive manufacturing.

Element is developing test methods in Amsterdam to ensure materials and structures produced by RAMLAB’s wire arc additive manufacturing technology are of the required quality.

Rod Martin, executive vice president Oil & Gas, Element, said: “Additive manufacturing technology is quite advanced in the aerospace and medical device sectors but completely underdeveloped for the oil and gas and maritime sectors…”
