Shell’s Appomattox hull arrives in Ingleside

HOUSTON– COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd.’s (COSCO) M/VXin Guang Hua delivered the hull of Shell’s Appomattox production platform to Ingleside, Texas, on Oct. 5.

According to COSCO, the 40,335-metric ton Appomattox hull is the largest and heaviest cargo transported to date by its fleet of semisubmersible heavy-lift vessels.

TheXin Guang Hua departed Geoje, South Korea, with the hull onboard in early August.

Josh Wilson, V.P. Business Development for COSCO Shipping Heavy Transport, said: “We are very proud to have worked closely with Shell and be part of the Appomattox project’s overall success.”

Sanctioned in 2015, theAppomattox development initially will produce from the Appomattox and Vicksburg fields, with average peak production estimated at 175,000 boe/d. The development will comprise a semisubmersible, four-column production platform, a subsea system featuring six drill centers, 15 producing wells, and five water injection wells.

Appomattox is 80 mi (129 km) offshore Louisiana, in approximately 7,200 ft (2,195 m) of water. The platform and the Appomattox and Vicksburg fields will be owned by Shell (79%) and Nexen Petroleum Offshore U.S.A. Inc. (21%), a wholly owned subsidiary of CNOOC Ltd.
