OSLO, Norway – Wintershall has permission from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority to drill a deepwater exploration well in production license 894 in the Norwegian Sea.
The semisubmersibleWest Phoenix should spud well 6604/5 on the Balderbrå prospect by Oct. 1.
Drilling should last 36 days, depending on whether a discovery follows.
Water depth at the site is around 1,220 m (4,002 ft).
