BERGEN, NorwayHöegh LNGhas contracted Framo to supply pumping systems for a new floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.

The FSRU’s regasification system converts LNG imported by tankers to gas for subsequent delivery ashore. This process requires the gas to be heated, using large quantities of seawater pumped from the ocean.

Framo will install four pumps in this vessel and potentially three more, due to be delivered during 2019-21.

The company claims its pump systems improve operating reliability, are lighter, and have fewer components to maintain compared with the conventional pumps deployed on FSRU vessels. They are also said to eliminate the need for a separate pump room on FSRUS, where space is often restricted.
