HOUSTON – The Petrobras-led Libra Consortium has commissioned Benthic to conduct a geotechnical study of the Libra field area in the presalt Santos basin, 140 mi (225 km) offshore Rio de Janeiro.

Benthic’s PROD (portable remotely operated drill) system will perform in situ testing and sampling to a maximum penetration depth of 80 m (262 ft) below the mudline, in water depths of 400-2,300 m (1,312-7,546 ft).

The company will then log and process the data, and test and profile the samples with a multi-sensor core logger onboard the vessel, followed by onshore laboratory testing and consolidation reporting.
