SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has completed appraisal drilling on its gas discoveries in Area 4 offshore Mozambique.

Mamba South 3 was the ninth well drilled in the exploration permit. Results from the well, which was tested, exceeded expectations leading Eni to upgrade in-place resources at the Mamba Complex and Coral discoveries to 80 tcf (2.3 tcm).

The latest well was drilled in 1,571 m (5,154 ft) water depth, reaching TD of 4,948 m (16,233 ft). Location was 6 km (3.7 mi) north of Mamba South 1, 12 km (7.4 mi) northwest of Mamba South 2, and about 50 km (31 mi) from the Cabo Delgado coast.

It encountered 214 m (702 ft) of gas pay in good-quality Oligocene and Eocene reservoirs, and additionally confirmed hydraulic communication with the same reservoirs of Mamba South 1 and Mamba South 2, Mamba North East 1 and Mamba North East 2.

Eni now plans to drill the Agulha 1 prospect in the southern part of Area 4, to assess the hydrocarbon potential of untested deeper plays.
