LIVORNO, Italy — OLT Offshore LNG Toscana will shut down the FSRU Toscana regasification terminal offshore western Italy for an extended period this year to undergo an “extraordinary” maintenance.

This will take place at the shipyard from the start of April to the end of October.

Following technical monitoring activities, the company decided to replace the bearing in the terminal’s anchoring system, which is designed to ensure the rotation of the terminal around the geostationary turret, which is permanently anchored to the sea floor.

Procedures are underway to schedule suspension of operations and begin the bearing replacement program. In the meantime, OLT has implemented control and monitoring of the anchoring system to enable continued full operation of the terminal without safety/environmental risks.

OLT, co-owned by Snam and Igneo Infrastructure Partners, owns and manages the Toscana, which is moored 22 km from the coast between Livorno and Pisa.

It is connected to Italy’s gas grid through a 36.5-km pipeline, operated and managed by Snam, of which about 29.5 km is subsea, 5 km in the floodway and the remaining 2 km onshore.

Toscana has a maximum authorized re-gas capacity of 5 Bcm/year.
