Oxan Energy, Ocean Connect Energy and SNOW are jointly aiming to develop the 88-km Saare 1 marine zone 60 km west of Saaremaa Island.

Estonia’s Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) has initiated license proceedings and the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for the Saare 1 Offshore Wind Project.

Oxan Energy, Ocean Connect Energy and SNOW are jointly aiming to develop the 88-km Saare 1 marine zone 60 km west of Saaremaa Island. In January, the CPTRA confirmed Oxan Energy as winner of the auction for this area.

At present, the consortium envisions a generating capacity of about 900 MW of capacity; although the final layout and numbers of wind turbines will be determined following technical studies and environmental assessments.

They plan to install both floating and fixed-bottom turbine foundations to accommodate the variable seabed depths of up to 85 m.

The EIA will be drafted and submitted within 18 months of the license initiation, followed by submission of the full EIA report within 24 months.
