BEILEN, The NetherlandsDEME has ordered lifting equipment from CAPE Holland for the 2.6-MW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, 27 miles offshore Virginia Beach on the US east coast.

The order covers supply of a CAPE VLT-640 Quad spread and a CAPE VLT-640 to DEME’s Orion vessel for installation of 176 monopile foundations for the fixed wind turbines.

The monopiles, with a diameter of 8.5 m and weighing 1,500 t, will be driven through the first layers of the seafloor using the CAPE equipment, with the VLT-640 facilitating the pile run free installation of jacket piles for three substations.

Orion will sail for the US with the equipment already mobilized on deck.

Aside from CAPE Holland, another Venterra-owned company involved in the project is INSPIRE Environmental, which will conduct post-construction marine growth monitoring on structures and benthic monitoring on the research project turbines.
