Maersk Oil North Sea UK has appointedMartin Rune Pedersen as its new MD, following the retirement of current MD Tom van Leenen.

The 2010 Annual Award Scheme of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Aberdeen Section has honored Senergy’s principal formation damage consultantMichael Byrne and technical head of geomechanics Phil McCurdy. Byrne received an award for achievements in drilling engineering while McCurdy’s award was in recognition of his contribution to formation evaluation.

Otto Energy has appointedPaul Moore as MD and Ian Boserio as a non-executive director.

Petris Technology has appointedJerry Martin as VP of Western Hemisphere, Greg Palmer and Stephan Dumothier as product managers, and Mike Zyglicki as account manager. In his new role, Martin will direct sales efforts and lead operational support of Petris’ solutions in North and South America.

Irish independent San Leon Energy has namedDr. John Buggenhagen as director of Exploration.

Senergy Norway has appointedØystein Roti as MD. Roti previously served as a senior director and VP at DONG Energy.

STX Europe has appointedSu-Jou Kim as president and CEO. Kim replaces Sang-Ho Shin, who has been appointed COO of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding and head of STX’s shipbuilding operations in Korea.

GE Oil & Gas has appointedA. John Lammas as VP and engineering and technology leader. Lammas has been with GE for 25 years and previously served as GE Energy’s GM of gas turbine and thermal systems.

Sky Petroleum has appointedOliver J. Whittle to its board of directors. Whittle has over 40 years of international banking experience and is currently the CEO of Raiffeisen Bank Albania.

Clough has appointedKeith Spence as chairman of the board, effective Oct. 26. He replaces Mike Harding. The company has also named CFO Neil Siford as an executive director.

GE Energy has appointed Joseph Ani s as VP of the Middle East.

Fu Chengyu is to resign from his role of CEO of CNOOC, but will remain as chairman of the board. He will be replaced by Yang Hua, who will also serve as vice-chairman. Yang is currently the company’s president and CFO. Li Fanrong steps up as president of the company.

Ranger Offshore has namedChris S. Guinta as CFO. He joins Ranger from SunTx Capital Partners, a private equity fund based in Dallas. Guinta previously served as a member of the Ranger Board of Directors.

Transocean has appointedJ. Michael Talbert as non-executive vice chairman of the board; Arnaud A.Y. Bobillier as executive VP, asset and performance; and Ihab Toma as executive VP, global business, effective immediately.

Harris

Foster Marketing Communications has appointedTiffany Harris as president. She succeeds company founder George Foster, who will remain as CEO.

Charles Woodburn has joined oilfield services provider Expro as CEO. He previously spent 15 years with Schlumberger in a variety of senior management roles including president of Wireline. Graeme Coutts, acting CEO, will resume his role as chairman.

Norwegian E&P independent Noreco has appointedRune Martinsen, currently COO, as VP of strategy and investor relations. Einar Gjelsvik succeeds him as COO.

Trudy Schoolenberg is the new VP, Global R&D at power generation group Wärtsilä Industrial Operations. She formerly held various senior positions with Shell.

The Offshore Marine Service Association has namedJames Adams as interim president and CEO. He succeeds Ken Wells.

Adame

Axon Energy has appointedDonna Adame as president of Axon Rig Concept and Design. She was previously VP of sales and marketing for Axon Pressure Products.

Simmons

Matthew R. Simmons, founder of the Ocean Energy Research Institute in Rockland, Maine, passed away on Sunday. Simmons was former chairman of Simmons & Company International. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, and their five daughters.

Santos has appointedPeter Cleary as VP of strategy and corporate development, Mark Macfarlane as CEO of GLNG Operations, James Baulderstone as VP of Eastern Australia, and David Lim as company secretary.

Bowtell

Clough has appointedGary Bowtell as executive VP of engineering. Bowtell will have profit and loss responsibility for all of Clough’s engineering efforts including the company’s involvement in Ocean Flow International and Peritus. His primary focus will be extending Clough’s engineering reach and developing engineering capacity.

Company News

BP and Talisman Energy have awarded contracts to ASCO Norway to provide integrated logistics services on the Norwegian shelf. The combined value is estimated at $65 million over five years. ASCO also will supply personnel, offshore containers, transport and forwarding services, and waste management.

The Clough Curtain Joint Venture reports receipt of AU$560 million ($227.6 million) in firm work orders for the Papua New Guinea LNG project. The project development plan includes gas production and processing facilities, onshore and offshore pipelines, and liquefaction facilities.

2H Offshore has opened a new regional base in Perth, Australia. The base will be headed by GM Elizabeth Tellier.

Expro has acquired Production Testers International business (PTI) from Production Testers International HK and Production Testers International.

Schlumberger has closed its merger with Smith International Inc. at a transaction value of $11 billion.

Statoil has signed a long-term frame agreement with Emerson Process Management. The five-year agreement covers process safety and automation systems, including engineering services for new capital projects as well as upgrades to existing facilities, and includes the option to renew for two additional two-year terms. Emerson will also continue to provide control valves, measurement instruments, asset management solutions, and related services.

TheRoyal Lankhorst Euronete Group plans to build a new factory in Brazil to produce deepwater mooring ropes. The new facility, which will measure around 5,000 sq m (53,820 sq ft), is in the Queimados industrial area in an 18,000-sq m (193,750-sq ft) property, with access to the ports of Rio de Janeiro and Sepetiba.

Maritime Industrial Services has established MIS Production Services to provide gas compression equipment for offshore and onshore field developments. The new division’s activities are designed to complement those of MIS’ existing EPC and Fabrication divisions and Energy Projects International (EPI), strengthening its goal of providing a full scope of contracting services to the oil and gas sector.

Starting in 2012 and going for 10 years,Bristow Norway will fly three helicopters from Flesland in Bergan following the award of a contract from Statoil. The use of the new Sikorsky S92s is pegged at NOK 2 billion ($318 million).

Hallin Marine Subsea International has opened a new multi-purpose facility in Singapore. The facility will house the company’s East operating division; manufacturing and marine divisions; administration center; and the Singapore arm of its engineering design business, Prospect. It will also act as a base for other Superior subsidiaries in the region.

Craig International Supplies (CIS) has secured contract extensions with Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd, Transocean, Chevron North Sea, and Chevron USA Inc. totaling more than $35 million ($54.38 million) over the next five years. CIS provides oilfield procurement services to the energy industry.

Prosafe has awarded HB Rentals a long-term lease contract to supply four 20 ft x 8 ft (6 m x 2 m) A60 Zone II Norsok office modules for the Valhall platform. The firm further announced it had invested in new 20 ft x 8 ft, A60 Zone II Norsok compliant modules for use as offices, laboratories, and drilling/well services support cabins.

Noreco has agreed to acquire 10% interest in PL 392 in the Norwegian Sea from BG Norge. The agreement is subject to approval by Norwegian authorities and the license partnership

Technip is forming a strategic collaboration with Petronas subsidiaries MISC Berhad and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB) . The partners plan to work jointly on offshore and onshore projects, initially designing and building offshore platforms, developing technologies, and cross-transferring skills.

Following its acquisition byInterMoor, IOS Offshore AS will now be known as IOS InterMoor AS. Established in 1986, IOS Offshore is a supplier of mooring equipment and services to the Norwegian offshore oil and gas industry.

TAM International North Sea Ltd. is investing approximately $2.8 million to expand its Aberdeen operations. Servicing Europe, Russia, Africa, and the Middle East, the Aberdeen facility will act as the primary training center for the region. It will also provide a warehouse area, permanent display area, and offices.

Kongsberg Gruppen has acquired Odfjell Consulting AS. Odfjell Consulting provides integrated rig and operations management technologies and consulting. Odfjell Consulting will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Kongsberg Oil and Gas Technologies. The company will remain based in Bergen, Norway and share premises with Odfjell Drilling AS.

Offshore fabricatorSLP Engineering has been sold to Zefier UK III, a subsidiary of Dutch steel construction specialists Smulders Group.

National Oilwell Varco (NOV) has awarded OEG Offshore (OEG) a $450,000 contract to design and supply 60, 40-ft (12-m) pipe bins that will be used to transport standard drillpipes.

Hayata has received a DNV Type Approval Certificate for its stainless steel cable tie line including rollerball, ladder, and releasable ties in both coated and uncoated versions. Certificate #E-10390 designates compliance with DNV Rules for the application of cables, outdoor and indoor, onboard ships, and mobile offshore units

INPEX Southeast Caspian Sea has increased its interest in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea. Devon Energy Caspian has sold its 5.63% stake in the development, to be split between INPEX (0.96%), operator BP (3.29%), Chevron (0.99%), and Itcihu (0.38%). As a result, INPEX will hold 10.96% of ACG. The other partners are AzACG, Statoil, ExxonMobil, TPAO, and Hess.

Parker Drilling has selected UniversalPegasus International as its automation and electrical engineering provider for arctic projects. UniversalPegasus’ offshore division provided Parker Drilling with electrical, automation, and mechanical engineering services in support of the design and construction of offshore drilling packages near Russia and the Alaskan North Slope.

South Oil Co. (SOC)has awarded Baker Hughes a three-year contract to provide technical services to its wireline logging department in Iraq. Baker Hughes will supply wireline technologies to SOC and other Iraqi oil and gas producers as well as help develop local Iraqi wireline logging capabilities. The TSA covers operations and technical support; HSE management and training programs, processes, and procedures for SOC’s Iraqi engineers and technicians.

Faroe Petroleum is set to take on its first operatorship in the Norwegian sector. The company has reached agreement with Det norske oljeselskap, to acquire a further 20% of license PL440S in the North Sea. Subject to approval from the Norwegian authorities, this will increase the company’s interest from 20% to 40%, also securing operatorship.

The board of directors forSeawell Ltd.and Allis-Chalmers Energy have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement for Seawell to aquire Allis-Chalmers Energy for about $890 million.

Tap Oil has relinquished the SC-41 exploration block in the Sulu Sea off the southern Philippines.

Dana Petroleum’s shareholders have approved the company’s offer for Petro-Canada Netherlands. The acquisition will lift Dana’s production capacity to around 50,000 b/d and its proved plus probable reserves to 254 MMboe.

King & Spalding has applied for government permission to open an office in Singapore to serve as the regional hub for its commercial arbitration and energy transactions.

HB Rentals has supplied a DNV-certified, eight-man sleeper accommodation module for Murphy Oil Corp.on a platform offshore Labuan, Malaysia. The unit will be used for three months at an estimated value of $40,000.

Ithaca Energy has agreed to acquire a package of southern North Sea gas interests from GDF SUEZ E&P UK for $16.9 million. The transaction includes operated interests in the producing Anglia field, the undeveloped Garnet and Opal discoveries, and a non-operated share in the producing Topaz field.

Structural/pipeline grouting services providerFoundOcean has entered into a strategic alliance in Australia. The company is teaming with Australian underwater technology/subsea intervention group Tamboritha, and subsea engineering specialist IEV.

GL Noble Denton has opened its fourth Norwegian office, this one in Stavanger. The company provides dynamic positioning and marine operations consultancy, design and integrity assurance services for offshore assets, and asset performance and optimization. GL Noble Denton’s other Norwegian offices are in Oslo, Sandefjord, and Brevik.

Walter Benjamin Reinhold, 85, passed away on Aug. 2, 2010. In 1969, Reinhold took over Abegg and Reinhold. He bought out partner Walter Abegg and changed the company’s name to Varco. In 1975 Reinhold took the company public on the NASDAQ with the First Boston Corp. Under Reinhold’s leadership, Varco grew to over 1,000 employees by the end of the decade and in 1981 became a member of the New York Stock Exchange. By 1980, Varco had expanded from California and Texas to Louisiana, Singapore, Scotland, England, and Germany. Reinhold retired from Varco in 1998. By this time, he had built his father’s company from less than 100 employees to over 3,000 employees.
