LONDON – Rockhopper and Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd. have both issued updates on the semisubmersible Eirik Raude’s progress following its re-entry of the Isobel Deep exploration well in the North Falkland basin.

The well has penetrated a sand interval with suspected elevated formation pressure and oil shows at the base of the current 12¼-in. hole section.

OperatorPremier Oil has opted to set a cement plug over this interval and run the contingent 9⅝-in. casing string in the shale section above, prior to drilling through the prognosed Isobel reservoir interval to total depth.

This casing string should provide additional flexibility while drilling and evaluating the target formation.

The extra activity will add 10-15 days to the schedule and final results are now expected in early June.
