RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Petrobras set a new record last month for production from fields in the presalt layer of theSantos and Campos basins.

The company’s output averaged 672,000 b/d, up 0.5% from the previous record of 669,000 b/d, established in January.

In March, the company began using the first riser in the Santos basin presalt based on the steel lazy wave riser (SLWR) concept. This comprises a steel pipe fitted with buoys that form a bend at a section of the equipment, designed to buffer impacts caused by the production platform’s movement.

The SLWR connects well 7-SPH-007 to the FPSOCidade de Ilhabela in the northern section of Sapinhoá field in 2,140 m (7,021 ft)  record depth for this type of technology, the company claims.

The well is also the most productive in the presalt, flowing around 40,000 b/d.
