RIO DE JANEIRO– The semisubmersible Transocean Marianas has started drilling a second exploration well offshore Namibia for HRT Walvis Petroleum.
Murombe-1 is 15 km (9.3 mi) west of HRT’s first well on license PEL-23, Wingat-1, in the Walvis basin. The location is 220 km (137 mi) northwest of Walvis Bay in 1,391 m (4,564 ft) of water.
The well will test a 1,000-sq km (386-sq mi) basin floor fan on a four-way-dip closure at its highest structural elevation within a turbidite complex. The main targets are Barremian turbidite reservoirs that exhibit a well-defined seismic amplitude anomaly on the PSDM 3D data set.
A shallower secondary objective is the Santonian-age Baobab confined channel complex with turbidite reservoirs.
HRT expects the well to encounter the Baobab at 3,670 m (12,040 ft) below sea level and the Murombe reservoir at 5,090 m (16,699 ft) below sea level. Drilling is expected to last 72 days.
