TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh says Iran is open to reviving a program to export gas to the UAE, according to news service Shana.

In 2001, Sharjah-based Crescent Petroleum signed terms to import gas from theSalman field in the Persian Gulf through a pipeline to be built jointly built by the company and Iran.

Four years later, Crescent became a key investor in Sharjah-basedDana Gas, which itself recently developed the Zora field offshore Sharjah/Ajman.

According to Shana, the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum signed a contract in 2010 with Crescent on gas exports, but the agreement was later cancelled following alleged corruption involved in the deal.

Zangeneh, speaking in an interview with Iran Daily, said: “We have informed Crescent Petroleum that we are ready to recover gas exports to the company and have carried out all the required technical and engineering procedures in this regard…

“Based on the arbitration tribunal’s judgement, it is now months that we have declared our readiness and have held numerous talk sessions in this regard.”

Recently, according to Shana, an investigating team inspected Iran’s ability to export gas to the UAE.

“By and large, the southern Persian Gulf region is a very important market for us, which we cannot forgo,” Zanganeh added.
