ABERDEEN, UK – Two 100-metric ton (110-ton) subsea mid water arches from decommissioned North Sea fields have been taken to Aberdeen Harbour.
Scotoil and Maersk Supply Services have been removing these and other subsea items from the Maersk Oil-operatedJames, Janice, Affleck, and Leadon fields in the UK central North Sea.
TheMaersk Achiever is due to complete nine shipments to Aberdeen by September.
Decommissioning involves bringing ashore more than 37,000 metric tons (40,785 tons) of material, of which over 90% will be recycled.
Craig Smith, managing director of Scotoil, said: “Several of the units involved in this job have been too large to ship by road in their current state, but we have been able to use the Aberdeen Harbour and Scotoil Licensed Area within the port to down-size the units, ready for onward road transportation…”
