OSLO, Norway – Statoil has permission from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority for an exploratory well in the Hoop area of the Barents Sea.
The CAT D semisubmersibleSonga Enabler will drill the well on the Gemini Nord prospect in 447 m (1,466 ft) of water in block 7325/4, 275 km (171 mi) from Nordkapp and 200 km (124 mi) from Bjørnøya (Bear Island).
Drilling should start this month and continue for 19 days.
