US Gulf of Mexico drilling rig count rises to 23

The US Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by three over the past week, according to the latest Baker Hughes weekly rig count.

HOUSTON – The US Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by three over the past week to reach 23, according to the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of May 19, 2017. That number is unchanged year-over-year.

The overall US offshore drilling rig count was up by two to 23, with the difference being the loss of a drilling rig offshore Alaska. The overall US offshore count is also down by one year-over-year.

The overall US rig count, onshore and offshore, was up by 16 week-over-week at 901, with oil rigs up by eight to 720, gas rigs up by eight to 180, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at one.

Compared to this time last year, the overall US rig count is up by 497, with oil rigs up by 402, gas rigs up by 95, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged.
