MILAN, ItalyEni and Oman Oil Co. have agreed to pursue cooperation opportunities in the oil and gas industry.

In addition, the Ministry of Oil & Gas of the Sultanate of Oman has granted Eni and OOCEP exploration rights toblock 52 offshore Oman, covering 90,000 sq km (34,749 sq mi) in water depths ranging from 10 to 2,000 m (33 to 6,562 ft).

The area was previously licensed but is largely unexplored, with potential for liquid hydrocarbons. Eni secured the block following an international bid round process launched last October.

Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said the developments were in line with his company’s strategy of “diversifying our exploration portfolio across basins with liquid hydrocarbon potential while keeping high quality stakes throughout the exploration phase.”

In Rome, the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with shipbuilding/vessel design specialistFincantieri to form an R&D partnership, with potential studies on energy projects related to natural gas. These include floating platforms for offshore production.
