DUBLIN, IrelandEuropa Oil & Gas has identified four potentially significant new prospects on its frontier exploration license 2/13 (FEL 2/13) on the west flank of the South Porcupine basin, offshore Ireland.

The company’s recent investigations have focused on deeper-lying prospectivity.

Two of the new targets potentially exceed the 200-MMboe threshold Europa views as the minimum for an economic field development off Atlantic Ireland.

Kilroy is a lowermost Cretaceous slope apron deposit thought to be time-equivalent to the Wilde prospect in the same license.

It appears to be optimally located for the Lower Cretaceous/Upper Jurassic source system identified by well 43/13-1 and implied by ExxonMobil’s ultra-deepwater Dunquin (44/23-1) well.

Keane is a syn-rift lead with AVO expression downdip of oil-bearing sand stringers in well 43/13-1, while Kiely is a mid-Jurassic tilted fault block prospect in the southeast of the license.

This same fault block has Triassic gas prospectivity at depth in prospect A-Tr.

Previously Europa had identified four prospects on the license, Doyle A, Doyle B, Doyle C and Heaney, with potential combined resources of 595 MMboe.

Further technical work is needed to de-risk these prospects and leads and to upgrade them to drillable prospect status, the company said.

This will involve reprocessing existing 3D seismic to deliver a pre-stack depth migration product, followed by detailed geophysical and geological interpretation.
