DUBLIN, IrelandProvidence Resources P.l.c. expects the CGG Oceanic Caspian to mobilize soon to frontier exploration license (FEL) 3/04 in the southern Porcupine basin, 200 km (124 mi) offshore southwest Ireland.

The vessel will acquire 1,800 sq km (695 sq mi) of new 3D seismic data over the license, in around 1,500 m (4,921 ft) water depth. The main aim is to improve understanding of the hydrocarbon potential of the undrilled Lower Cretaceous Dunquin South carbonate exploration prospect.

In addition, the new data may shed further light on the 2013 ExxonMobil-operated 44/23-1 exploration well drilled on theDunquin North carbonate prospect 20 km (12.4 mi) distant, which encountered a large residual oil column within a highly porous over-pressured carbonate reservoir system.

A further objective will be to assess the nature and hydrocarbon potential of the 700-sq km (270-sq mi) Dunquin Ridge which underlies both Dunquin carbonate build-ups, and which was not penetrated by the previous well.

Eni Ireland operates the license, in partnership with Repsol Exploracion Irlanda, Providence, and Sosina Exploration.

Dr. John O’Sullivan, technical director of Providence, said: “We hope that the results of this survey will improve our understanding of the acreage and lead to further drilling in the future.”
