TEHRAN, Iran– National Iranian Oil Co. says production has started from the oil layer of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf.

Deputy Managing Director for Engineering and Development Affairs Gholam-Reza Manouchehri told news service Shana that seven wells were in operation and these should build to full capacity soon.

Eventually oil production through theFPSOCyrus will reach 35,000 b/d, with production offloaded to a shuttle tanker.

South Pars, which Iran shares with Qatar in Persian Gulf waters, is estimated to contain more than 14 Bbbl in its oil layer.

Iran also has produced first gas and condensate from Phase 20 of the South Pars development. The sour gas recovered is injected to Iran’s national gas distribution network after sweetening.
