UCKFIELD, UK – GSS-Interica has provided an update on its project to reprocess the Persian Carpet 2000 dataset, acquired during 1999-2005.
It comprises 116,000 km (72,079 mi) of multi-client 2D (MC2D) data, 120 wells and 30,000 km (18,641 mi) of gravity data.
According to the company, it is the only current MC2D and Pseudo MC3D dataset covering the entire Iranian offshore sector of thePersian Gulf and Iran’s part of the Oman Sea.
GGS-Interica has been reviewing the first technical outputs with companies interested in bidding to develop the country’s upstream projects.
The contractor has selected and received back first results from various test lines said to offer the best geological representation of the entire Persian Carpet area, for a reprocessing trial to prepare for any offshore bidding.
All selected lines are said to be well connected and evenly distributed over the entire survey, crossing available wells with wireline well logs, and should help define the best reprocessing sequence.
Early reprocessing results, using the latest Demultiple and Broad Band processing algorithms, have delivered an improvement in the data. The seismic image is said to have better resolution with a higher signal-to-noise ratio and improved horizons continuity.
It is possible, the contractor adds, to observe and evaluate the potential of different zones with roll overs; pre-Turonian pinch-outs and post-Turonian lobes; better defined reefs; and stratigraphic prospects, together with pinch-outs.
Most selected lines covering the Persian Gulf but others were also selected in the undrilled area of the Oman Gulf to both evaluate the potential, and the reprocessing challenges in this zone, characterized by faults, salt domes, and other geological structures.
The company’s next step will be to sign a definitive contract in the next few weeks on full reprocessing of the entire dataset, with a fully reprocessed package resulting over the offered blocks in time for the bidding process.
