Lundin, Statoil step up appraisal drilling offshore Norway

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has issued permits for two appraisal wells to Lundin Norway and Statoil.

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has issued permits for two appraisal wells to Lundin Norway and Statoil.

The semisubmersibleLeiv Eiriksson will drill appraisal well 7120/1-5 on license 492 for Lundin in the Barents Sea, 4 km (2.5 mi) north of the 7120/1-3 discovery well.

This license was awarded in February 2008.

For Statoil, theDeepsea Atlantic will drill well 16/2-22 S on Johan Sverdrup in PL 265.

The area in this license comprises part of block 16/2. The well will be drilled around 2 km (1.2 mi) northwest of the 16/2-9 S well in Sverdrup’s Tonjer West segment.

This will be the 16th exploration well in the license area and the 12th on or near Johan Sverdrup in PL 265.
