OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved Statoil’s request to drill four survey wells at the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea.
Production is slated to start in late 2019 from a complex of four bridge-linked platforms.
Statoil says the wells, to be drilled by the semisubmersible Deepsea Atlantic, are needed to obtain information about reservoir conditions in the field.
The consent was issued in the form of two decisions: one for one of the wells and one for the other three.
Drilling is due to start on Nov. 1, and last around four months. Water depth in the area is 110-120 m (361-393 ft).
