Grupo R jackups enter work for PEMEX

Grupo R’s first two newbuild jackups, Cantarell I and Cantarell II, started drilling on Aug. 1 at PEMEX’s Cantarell oil field in the Gulf of Mexico.

MEXICO CITYGrupo R’s first two newbuild jackups, Cantarell IandCantarell II, started drilling on Aug. 1 at PEMEX’s Cantarell oil field in the Gulf of Mexico.

Both are KFELS B-Class 400 fsw rated, 15,000 BOP jackups and are part of the five-unit Cantarell fleet.Cantarell I and II departed Singapore for Mexico on March 24. Grupo R said it took delivery on March 27.

The jackups feature a self-positioning fixation system and a fully-automated rack and pinion jacking system that can drill to depths of 30,000 ft (9,144 m) in up to 400 ft (121 m) of water. Also of the KFELS B-Class,Canterell III, IV, and V are under construction in the Keppel FELS Shipyard in Singapore.
