Keppel FELS delivers two jackups to Grupo R

Keppel FELS Ltd. has delivered two jackup drilling rigs to Mexican energy conglomerate Grupo R.

SINGAPOREKeppel FELS Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. has delivered two jackup drilling rigs to Mexican energy conglomerate Grupo R.

Built to Keppel’s proprietary KFELS B Class design, theCANTARELL IandCANTARELL II rigs will be chartered to PEMEX for operations at the Cantarell oil field offshore Mexico. They are the first two of five jackup rigs that Keppel FELS is building for Grupo R.

With the two rigs delivered, the company said that there will be 10 KFELS B Class rigs working in Mexican waters, two of which are directly owned by PEMEX.

The KFELS B Class jackup is designed to operate in water depths of up to 400 ft (121 m) and drill to depths of 30,000 ft (9,144 m). Developed by Keppel’s Offshore Technology Development, the company said that the KFELS B Class jackup is equipped with a fully-automated high capacity rack and pinion jacking system, and self-positioning fixation system. It has accommodation with full amenities for 150 persons.

With the deliveries, Keppel FELS has delivered three rigs in 2016 to-date. Earlier this month, the company said it was on track to deliver a fifth high-specification accommodation semisubmersible toFloatel International Ltd. for work at the Ichthys field off Western Australia. In January, Keppel FELS deliveredHalul, a KFELS B Class jackup rig, to Gulf Drilling International Ltd. of Qatar.
