PSA approves North Sea Troll, Varg well plug operations

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has sanctioned Statoil’s request to use the semisubmersible Stena Don for a varied program at the Troll field in the North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has sanctioned Statoil’s request to use the semisubmersible Stena Don for a varied program at the Troll field in the North Sea.

The planned workscope covers drilling, completion, intervention work, and well plugging.

PSA has also approved Repsol’s decommissioning plans for the Varg field, due to cease production in June.

Repsol intends to move the floating production systemPetrojarl Varg from the field in August, with removal of the subsea structures to start soon afterward.

The Varg A wellhead platform will remain in place while plugging and removal of the wells takes place.
