HOUSTONBPZ Energy has failed to prove oil with its latest well on the Corvina field in block Z-1 offshore Peru.

The company is reassessing its geologic model to analyze the impact of well tests on this part of the field.

However, the CX15-9D well did intersect around 35 ft (11 m) of net gas pay in the upper Zoiros non-associated gas reservoir, where the 16X, 14D, and 21XD wells previously tested gas at rates of 20-40 MMcf/d.

The 9D well has been suspended and could be completed at a later date as a gas producer.

BPZ’s offshore Albacora A-22D development well in the same block has been drilled to 13,730 ft (4,185 m) MD, and is currently being tested.

For the remainder of this year, the company will focus on low cost workovers at both fields to optimize production. Work has started to restore production at the shut-in Corvina CX15-1D well.

BPZ has approval from the Peruvian government to defer work on the offshoreDelfin structure elsewhere in the block.
