ABERDEEN, UK– ABB Consulting has started a study on behalf of Decom North Sea (DNS) and Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) to investigate ways of cutting the cost of offshore decommissioning.

DNS is the UK’s representative body for the decommissioning industry. Its members called for a “Removal and Disposal Landscaping Study” following last year’s Decom Offshore conference.

The main goal is to identify efficient decommissioning solutions that involve re-use.

DNS also believes operators need more information on removal methods such as piece small, salvage and load transfer.

ABB Consulting will examine the restrictions and uncertainties associated with these methods and establish which contractors are offering solutions using such techniques. From the findings, due to be presented next month, the company will compile a typical offshore inventory of contractors and manufacturers proposing innovative approaches.
