CNOOC has started up production from its Weizhou 5-3 oilfield development in the South China Sea.
The project, in 35 m water depth in Beibu Gulf basin, involved construction of a new self-installing wellhead platform that has been connected to nearby offshore infrastructure.
CNOOC plans a total of seven production wells, two water injectors and one gas injector, and is targeting peak production of about 10,000 boe/d next year. The oil is a medium crude.
The company operates the project with a 51% interest, in partnership with Smart Oil Investment (49%).
