TANANGER, Norway – ConocoPhillips has started production from the Eldfisk 2/7 S (Eldfisk II) platform, 300 km (186 mi) from the southern Norwegian coast in the North Sea.

Timing is on schedule, according to the plan for development and operation (PDO) approved by the Storting (Norway’s parliament) in June 2011.

Development calls for 40 new production and water injection wells that are expected to improve recovery and maintain stable production from the Eldfisk field over the years ahead.

One of four pre-drilled wells is online, and the remaining three should follow later this month. TheMaersk Innovator will drill the remaining wells over the next few years.

In October 2013, the Ekofisk 2/4 Z (Ekofisk South) wellhead platform startedproduction in the Ekofisk field, while the new field center and accommodation platform Ekofisk 2/4 L, including 552 individual cabins, started operations last April.

“After 43 years of production from the Greater Ekofisk Area, we are now preparing Ekofisk and Eldfisk for another 40 years,” said Steinar Våge, president, ConocoPhillips Europe.

TheEldfisk II project also involved adaptations to existing platforms and infrastructure serving the Eldfisk field. The four platforms – Eldfisk 2/7 A, 2/7 B, 2/7 FTP, and 2/7 E – have undergone various degrees of modifications in preparation for extended service.

New pipelines connect the infrastructure, and a new power and fiber-optic cable is in place that can transfer up to 20 MW between Ekofisk 2/4Z and Eldfisk 2/7 S. This is expected to increase energy efficiency between the fields in the Greater Ekofisk Area, ConocoPhillips claims.
